Since 2015, Hive has helped thousands of young people aged 11 – 24 learn digital skills through events in and out of formal education.

We run DigiCamps in school holidays, where participants work in groups on workshops like Robot Building, Drone Coding and Data Detectives.

At youth hacks, teams collaborate and compete on challenges to create the best solutions to real-world problems: prototype apps, games or devices. Prizes are not necessarily for the final product, but for teamwork, trying new things and not being afraid to fail!

In formal education, we partnered on the 2-year Go Digital programme, taking digital skills to 1500 11 – 13 year olds in 50 Greater Manchester (GM) schools in 2018 – 2020.

We have developed and delivered a Level 4 Apprenticeships for Hyper Island and Manchester Digital, successfully starting off young people in tech careers at top GM companies.

Our facilitators and supporters come from the local tech industry. We have benefited from time and resources given by Cisco, Booking.com, AO, Autotrader, GCHQ, Autodesk and many more.

Inspirations are the work of Seymour Papert, Mozilla’s ‘digital making’ movement and the Raspberry Pi Foundation’s wonderful Coderdojo and Code Club initiatives.
